Who we are

Dedicated in 1980, situated in a beautiful year round resort, Mammoth Lakes Lutheran Church now has the opportunity to serve visitors from all over the world. Often, 500 people visit our four Christmas Eve services alone!

We are a congregation of 38 members including the Pastor and the organist. We have huge potential for outreach to our community of 7,000 and vacationing population of up to 50,000 at peak summer and winter seasons.

Overwhelming potential to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ sharply contrasts the lack of resources within our small parish, especially after the gradual yet severe drop in membership due to the cost of living and demographic changes in our community as Mammoth became more of a resort town.

Where we were

By the spring of 2005 a group of less than a dozen members with no minister and the need of a new roof were faced with the option to close their doors forever. Instead, they voted to take out a loan, call a Pastor and focus on rebuilding this ministry to the Glory of God.

          Pastor Gross was Called and the congregation began to grow. With the help of “Raise the Roof Partners”, the Roof was replaced. Finances were in place to support a pastor for three years. But the cost of housing in Mammoth required that a parsonage be built on the existing property. With a parsonage we can be assured of a permanent, on going ministry at Mammoth Lakes Lutheran Church. Praise be to God!

Where we are now

The next necessary step is to pay off our loan. We will need eighty “Partners in Ministry” for the year 2008, who are willing to donate $25 per month to our Loan Repayment Fund.
